This morning I opened up my email to find a short note from a cousin of mine whom I haven't talked to in a long time. Her note contained a website address about her brother (also my cousin) and his friends who are about to do something incredibly stupid....They are walking from Chicago, Illinois to San Francisco, California to raise money for the American Cancer Society!

They are about to start their journey in two hours. Their progress will be tracked on the website. You can donate in three different ways, 1) through PayPal, 2) $$ per mile, or 3) buy Stupid Stuff from the Stupid Store.

Anyway, check it out http://www.youguysarestupid.com And support the cause!

P. S. I just bought some shirts and a cap! The logo is pretty cool!

Boy you know this a really great idea and all that these guys are doing this however I have my reservations about dontating to these guys.

Why, in God's, Allah's, Buddah's, etc.'s name, are you doing this?

To provide you with yet another form of reality entertainment, of course! One answer is that we just feel like doing something somewhat unique. In reality, it's been done many, many times by our forefathers (and/or foremothers, we'd guess) but it's just not done in today's world. The real answer to this question will be found on the trip, as our good friend, Kevin, likes to tell us (yes, he's really a therapist; someday he'll have his doctorate and we'll worship him like the God he will have become.)

Will something good come of this (besides foolish entertainment)?

We're thinking of doing a walk-for-charity thing. If you think our site is neat and you feel like being a kind-hearted human, you can contribute to us and the cool charity that we choose. (We haven't decided who the charity will be just yet, but we promise it will be a good one, even though we're not quite sure how you would decide who a really "good" charity is.)

Perhaps if they had a link on there to their charity or if they even picked a charity yet, I might donate. But I'm not just going to hand over my hard earned $$ to fuel those guys fun. They even admit they don't if or what charity they will donate to.

Sorry to have to point that out, but I was looking for the charity on there (American Cancer Society) and I didn't see it mentioned on there anywhere.

If they want to fix that and get more $$ I suggest they get a charity ASAP and then have the charity link their site to charity's site, that way everything is legit. Cause right now donating is just funding for their fun. Sounds like fun though makes me want to quit my job and join em, I'm sure it'd be a blast.

I just checked out the site and they do mention the American Cancer Society and have links to its website. I think this is a great thing your cousin is doing and I plan on keeping up with their progress. The thought of walking that far- I can't even imagine! Good luck to the guys- I hope they make it.

Ok I see it on the right there, must have missed it. I like what these guys are doing, however even though it says

Option 1:

The American Cancer Society is our chosen charity. A small portion of your donation will be used to fund our trip. Get More Info or Donate now:

There is still no link to any cancer site that even mentions these guys. I'm sorry I'm a little picky but when I donate I want to make sure my $$ goes to the right place. The only link on option #1 takes you right to someone's paypal account. Without the actual American Cancer Society listing these guys as a legit $$ to their charity I will not donate blindly into somebody's paypal account. Sorry, but no offense to your friends. Their site looks cool, but theres no way to validate that donated $$ is actually going to the American Cancer Society.

I am in AWE, they have really gone all out! The website, the store, their determination! Brava! How many 20 somethings would do all that!

I understand your concerns HoJo, and well, I guess in this society most of us are trained to be skeptical! If you choose not to donate money to them and to donate directly to ACS then do so, but don't bash their efforts here where I can do nothing about it except voice your concerns on their website. IMHO, that should be something you should do, not me.

On my side of the story, I would not have posted this thread if it were some scam for getting rich quick. This is my cousin! He has his reasons for doing what he and his friends are doing, but its not my place to tell. This thing is for real!!!

I guess I just wanted to say I'm not gonna tell you what to think or what to do, just what I know. Don't bash this cause here...do it where it can be dealt with in a more constructive manner!

Thanks! ;)

Well, these guys have officially made it out of Illinois and have reached Iowa!

Check out the updated journals and photos!

Oh, BTW, HoJo, if you click on the Contribute page and scroll down you will find what you are looking for...the link to ACS.

Hello, me again to update a little.

They have made it to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Today, (or was it yesterday?) they were the topic of a column in the the Chicago Sun Times. Hits on the Guestbook were three fold today.

A fourth member, and friend from Chicago, has joined the group of 20-somethings. And their journey continues......sport-smiley-009.gif
