What's the best part about being a Nurse?

Feeling like I'm making a contribution is what I like most about being a Nurse. I work in Psych, but the feeling has been the same in all the areas of Nursing I've worked.

I work in Oncology as a charge nurse/floor nurse and I love working with our Leukemia patients the most. I like getting to be there to help them out and seeing them pull through it and being a part of thier life in a time I am certian they wish they never had to go through. I enjoy the human aspect of the job and nevr knowing what is around the next corner...the grumpiest little old guy with more fight than the 20 something down the hall gets to go home instead of LTC and that is his wish..we help him get there I am happy for him and happy I could help. I guess there are a million scenerios but it all boils down to giving the best most compassionate care I can. I am just glad I could be there to do so.

Area: telemetry

Best part: hands-on patient care and solving problems. When I succeed in getting difficult patients to calm down and let us help them, it's the best feeling in the world. I haven't always been successful at it, though, but I'm getting better with coping with it without feeling "there's more I could have done." Finding ways to help patients in pain or when they can't sleep, but they don't have a med for it or it's not time for the med. Not all things have to be fixed by popping a pill.

Worst part: The paperwork.
