I've been employed at the same facility for 7 years, but when thinking of moving I'm worried about disclosing a DUI from 2001- I've known lots of nurses, many whove been disipined and kept their liscense- but what should I expect from future employers?? Nurses are long reputed to be a crazy bunch- Ive known a lot wilder than me- c lisense issues even- but is my anxiety unfounded?? Please tell me Im not the only one c a record....:devil:

You're not. Just be honest... 2001 was a long time ago, I have a very similar situation and had no problem getting a new job.

If the application asks about misdemeanors, I list it. If not, I don't. I've never been asked about it.

You'll have to disclose to the Board of Nursing if you're moving out of state. I would get your paperwork in order so that you can present it to them. I sure wouldn't withold that info on your application.

Since you've obviously still had a job despite the charge, that should go a long way.

Read the application carefully, sometimes they are only asking for stuff in the last 5 years. If so, there is no need to disclose.

You might consider writing up a statemtent regarding the incident, what you learned, what you've done to ensure that this doesn't happen again. You could include any other "good" things that you've done, awards, etc. to help boost your reputation as a good nurse, including making them aware of the fact that the BON did not revoke your license for this incident.

Giving them written recommendations up front from peers/supervisors might also help take the attention off that little negative area on the application.
