Varicose veins and about to start nursing school

I'm 38 and have one bulging varicose vein on one leg & spider veins on my ankle on the other leg. I am worried sick that this will affect my ability to be a nurse. Will it? Will support hose be enough to keep it from getting worse?

only your doctor will be able to advise that. There are support hose of course but I would ask my MD about preventive measures specific to my condition.

Medical advice and all that...

If you are thinking that all nursing involves being on your feet then you are misinformed. There are many low activity nursing positions that require little if any standing at all.

Of course, I cannot comment on your specific issue, but I had pretty bad spider veins and a varicose vein on one leg. I worked for years like that. That leg would swell more than the other. I finally had surgery a year ago, and the compression hose really helped afterwards. I'm not as good about wearing them now (I'm not on my feet as much), but they really helped with the swelling when I wore them consistently.
