Transgender Nurses

Nurses General Nursing

I realize that there may not be many of us out there but...

I think it would be really great if we could at least begin a discussion of our experiences in this profession. Perhaps we can help each other as well as new nurses and nursing students who are trans.

As for myself, I have been a nurse for 12 years. I came out about 2 years ago and haven't regretted the decision. Sure, there have been some bumps along the way, but that's the way life is.

Anyway, just respond if you have any interest.

If you do not mind, I would like to know if you came out to people in your workplace.

What prompted you to be open about this matter?

Thank you.

I worked with a transgender RN. You can tell that she was a man so there was never any "coming out". I think that since that hospital was in a liberal part of the states, she by and large experienced very few overt problems.

I figure if you have female nurses and male nurses, gay nurses and male nurses, then a transgender RN shouldn't be an issue.
