Searchin for the longest experienced nurse out there. Was just wondering as I was thinking about all the tremendous changes nursing has brought about through out the years. Nursing doesn't seem the same as it was 16 yrs ago ( For myself ), or even 10 or even 5 years ago!

Thanks for sharing

I have been an LPN for 25 years, 3 years as an aide before that.

24 years and still working as a staff nurse! I guess I kind of like it... Anyways my back will be the thing that finally stops me from working.

I graduated from nursing school in 1968 in Kansas City. So I have been a nurse for 35 years!

I've been an RN for only 1 year and 3 months. :D.

I have been a nurse over 30 years, have enough education to have 2.5 masters degrees and am generally very tired of it, even though I'm grateful for the experience and income it has given me. I'm not unproud, just generally fed up with it.

July was 8 years as an RN for me...feels longer though!

Wow, kind of makes me feel embarassed to complain about burnout when I hear about nurses practicing for 20-30+ years. I'll quit my crabbin"!!!

I became an LPN in 1978. Then I went to become an RN and graduated in l995. So, I guess I have been in health care a total of 25 years.

I have been a nurse for a total of 31 years,2 years as a nursing assistant while in school.

I still think it's the best job in the world.

I am still in awe of all the changes made in nursing and how technical our jobs have become.

I don't always agree with how things are done or how nurses are treated.

It still amazes me that I have a person's life in my hands and I still get paid less than most careers.

I have always said it takes a very special person to be a nurse,

and the good ones usually stand out.

Gosh....

Where have the years gone,lol.

Specializes in Cardiac/Vascular & Healing Touch.

14+ as RN, & very glad I did it!!!:chuckle

I have been an LPN for 27 years and just found out Thursday that I passed my boards for RN...Thank Goodness!!!!

Specializes in obstetrics(high risk antepartum, L/D,etc.

Well, let's see. I entered nursing school September 5, 1956, and graduated August 3, 1959. I took the 3 day long state boards in October and finally got results that I had passed on January 20, 1960. As you see, those were milestone dates in my life. Nursing is my life. I wonder why anyone would want to do anything else, even though I wish nursing was the nursing of 15-20 years ago. So far as how long have I been a nurse? All of my life. I was born with a stethescope in my ears!:chuckle So far as how many years has it been official, you do the math.:chuckle

In Feb., will be 25 years. Yes, I took the 2 day boards and wouldn't ever think of re-taking them!
