RN Interview at a nursing home --Help Please!!

Nurses General Nursing

Hi everyone,

I am a new grad RN and I just received a call for an interview at a Nursing Home. I have never done any interviews before and now I don't know what to expect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What kind of questions can I expect at a Nursing home Interview?

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

Nursing home interview will be similar to any other interview. They will want to know your feelings on geriatrics, multi-tasking, med knowledge and nursing in general. I suggest you read their Mission statement prior to interview and you can base your answers on what they feel is important to both you and them. You need to have a list of questions for them.. good ones usually involve nurse ratios, whether facility uses agency nurses or not, what orientation/training they are willing to provide, will there be a mentor on your shift. Will you orient on your shift?

Take deep breathes and try to stay relaxed. Keep eye to eye contact, be prepared that many nursing home's do team interviews sometimes 2 0r 3 people.

What their basic goal is to determine if you have what it takes to fit into their business!

Also avoid negative comments and be positive about the opportunity this may provide.

Knock them dead!

I am not an RN, but an LPN and have had interviews at nursing homes. They will also ask you (In addition to the above).."what if" situations. Several interviewers also asked me why I thought I should be chosen for the position--so prepare yourself. Good luck!
