Requirements for CNA

Could somebody please tell me how old you have to be to become a CNA for the state of Washington? I am 17 and have graduated from High School a year early. I plan to go to college to become an RN but I would like to find a job in the field so I can also get experience while I am going to college.

I'm not sure about Washington, but I'm sure that you would have to attend a state approved nurse aide training course. In Kentucky 75 hours was required, it cost about 300 bucks. Here's some contact info for you...I can't find anything on their website about the requirements for CNA's.

I am also from Washington and I know when I took my test for the state there were several girls from Vancouver who were taking their test, they took the class and got licenced for a senior project. If I were you I would contact a college close by and find out if they have a class open, I know for my school we had to have our CNA in order to enroll in the nursing program.

Good for you Samantha! I think it is a very good idea to become a CNA before going to nursing school. As for CNA requirements, I believe you need to be 16 or older with a clean record, not much anything else I don't think. I'm a CNA from Idaho (3 yrs) and going into the nursing program (in Washington) this fall. I've seen several go straight into the nursing program with great invisions of life saving which can't always be done and grand appraisal which doesn't always happen. Not only does CNA work give you great insight to nursing, but it will also give you comfort zone for the patient care that you will already know how to give during your 1st year nursing clinicals. :)

Hey Samantha! I am a CNA in Washington. I just recently finished my course! I don't know what area you are in, but you can contact nursing homes to see if they'll train you for free, or you can look into community colleges. There are also a few state approved courses (like the one I went through), but they can cost a lot. Contact me if you have any questions!
