Relocating to South Texas

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am an RN with 5 years current experience in Med/Surg and telemetry. I will be relocating to Corpus Christi TX at the end of October. Are there many job openings for RNs in that area? If so, what is the pay scale for nurses there?

Specializes in ER, NICU.

Am RN in San Antonio. Plenty of jobs here. Have been here since July and have had three job opportunities. Lots of military here, and alot of agency opportunities. Overtime out the wazoo if you want it.

I was in Corpus Christi last weekend for "fun" and to see the beach.

I REALLY liked Corpus.

There was a REALLY NICE looking facility "Christus Spohn System" very near the water. The phone number is 361-902-4000.

There is a really cute waterside place under the bridge to South Padre Island. It is called "Snoopy's" and has really good seafood. Very casual. Windows are open with sea breezes blowing in. You can sit there and watch people windsurf and watch boats go in and out.

Really was relaxed. The heat is torture in the summer months though - be PREPARED for heat and hurricanes.:uhoh21:

Hi My Name is Linda Louise Everett,

You did not get very straight answers from the previous replys, I have found that nursing wages are pretty much constant across the board. You are better off asking for what you want than asking what the salery is. Most hospitals will ask what you made at your last job and start you slightly above that figure. So, try for 4-5 dollars above that. All they can do is quote you a lower figure. probably higher that what you thought you could get. I just thought it was pretty funny that I have both of their name's.

Doesn't matter what the pay is ...you'll be in Texas!:chuckle

Sorry, but most of us didn't buy a house in Hawaii 10 years ago or whenever, so living somewhere more glamourous would involve $500,000+ for even a modest living space on RN wages to meet your high standards.

Sorry our state is so beneath you.

Starting pay for new graduate RNs is between $18.00 and $20.00 an hour here in South Texas.

Will also pay for relocation, payback student loans, give you great extern/intern programs.

At least in San Antonio...not sure about Corpus.

AGREE: "Who cares what the pay is......as long as you are in TEXAS!":balloons: :D

I also love Texas. Austin is a wonderful place too. I know there are jobs here as well. Not too expensive to live here, either. Not sure what they pay for RNs, though. Check out http://www.seton.net - It's our health system here in Austin.

Nasty nasty nasty to berate someone's home state. Tacky to the max.

What the heck! Are you on drugs? What are you even trying to say? Texas is my home state and I love it.
