Proud to be an LPN

When people hear that I am a medic: "OMG THATS AWESOME!"
when people hear I am an LPN: "is that like, a real nurse?"
well Aside from wanting to slap people in the face, it's motivated me to think of all the good I do for people, as a licensed practical NURSE!
The list was pretty long. I guess I am a real nurse after all!
But seriously.. Those d-bags.

Besides that - a LPN is a real nurse but not with the same scope as a RN ...

Like an EMT is not a paramedic.

You can't blame people for not knowing the details and differences.

I did a career education for high school students and explained the whole confusing world of "how to become a nurse" by years of education and scope of practice.

My choice of words was due to frustration. I am a paramedic which is awesome but I still value myself just as much as an Lpn, is that wrong? cause i am a nurse. No one needs to explain that an RN and LPN are different scopes. I am a nurse even though my scope is different. But this is kinda what Bothers me. The whole "LPNs are nurses but..." Then goes on to compare to RN.

Edit: I apologize for my tone I am just now having my coffee, got out of work 3 hours late last night due to pt with seizure. Gave Ativan and sent them off. Copious amounts of charting. And then I got that snarky comment from an EMT.. Just made all I just did feel like it was nothing because of my title. Even though honestly I did the same thing an RN would and I find myself saying that so much.

You ARE a nurse and dont have to defend that to acquaintances at all. Not everybody can do it, but you did! Keep up the good work:)

Yes, most states allow you to use the title "Nurse" without adding anything or specifically stating that you are a LPN / LVN; however, you don't have the same level of entitlement as we do. Higher pay, wider scope of practice and more down time to play candycrush just to name a few.

I'm glad you get to play candy crush. I tried it a few times and It wasn't for me. I prefer word brain.
