Post interview

Nurses General Nursing

I had an interview a two or so weeks ago on a unit that I had my preceptorship on. I was recommended by charge nurses and multiple staff, thought I had a decent interview, but have not had any phone calls about an actual job offer. I had two major health issues between the interview and now, plus graduation so my time is a little warped. I did say in the interview that I would be taking my boards after the Kaplan course, and they said that was fine. So whens the moment that that pit in my stomach can finally swallow me whole? :) Just kidding, but when would be a pretty obvious time that I won't be getting a call?

PS: Fortunately not my only job... I have a full time position accepted for when I pass that can be part time if I get this other job as well.

Specializes in Intermediate care.

I was in the SAME exact situation last year. EXACT same! (scary!!). Anyway, before the position went up i was basically told i had it. She pulled me in her office (Yikes! i was scared) and talked to me about it. She said Legally, i have to put it up for everyone to apply and i have to interview other people. She had to follow all the rules regarding employment and hiring me.

After she interviewed everyone else, she contacted HR and HR has to be the one to do the necessary paperwork and HR will then call and offer it to you. So my manager gave me the unofficial offer in person. She laughed and compared me to when she went wedding dress shopping. She said i kept finding myself comparing everyone to you. :D So i got the job but it was like 3 weeks before i heard from my manager, then almost a week later before i heard from HR.

So your manager COULD have the decision now its just that HR is taking a while to get back to you. Once they offer it to you, its official.

but really, i wouldn't worry too much about it. They know you, as long as the staff likes you, the manager likes you then i think there is a great chance you would get it. Unless you have maybe an aide on the floor that is also graduating from nursing school then that MIGHT change things, but probably not. Because during your internship you've had more training. I saved the hospital quite a bit of money because i had all the education completed during my internship. So they were able to throw me on the floor right away (with a preceptor) for 10 weeks. So my orientation was cut down by 2 weeks, saving them lots of money.

It can vary for many reasons, depends how long they conducted interviews for and so on. Did they say for sure they would let you know one way or the other? I am currently waiting too. I was told I will hear by the end of this upcoming week. I know the lady I will be hearing from is leaving on vacation on Thursday. I leave for vacation on Wednesday. It's very very nerve wracking. I expect to hear in the next 2 days. I was talking to the HR lady the other day, I saw a lot of the other positions were getting filled and so I was worried if I should go ahead and schedule my interview with the nursing panel. All my fellow classmates are taking boards tomorrow and the week after, so competition will be getting even worse. Last week the lady that interviewed me and the HR lady both said to keep my vacation that it won't effect anything because it would be a few weeks before I start so enjoy it now.

Anyway the HR lady told me to lets hold off on doing the interview with the Nursing Panel until I get back because the other lady is "Strongly considering me" so that freaked me out more. Like does she know something or was she simply trying to stay positive. GAHHHHHH

Anyway, hopefully we find out soon and hopefully we both get the jobs! If I get it that would mean I graduated, took boards, got my license and got a job in a matter of 3 weeks with no previous experience!!! Very exciting.

Anyway, keep us updated on how it pans out!!! It's nice to have someone going through it too even if it is such an anxiety ridden thing.

Okay, so hopefully I should have some more time, then. They didn't say anything about letting me know by a certain date. They did tell give my expectations of the unit, talked about completing my CPR re-certifcation and asked which of the three available positions I preferred. I will let you guys know, for sure. I was supposed to graduate last year and those girls are still having issues getting jobs. A year later, a good portion of my class have had interviews before graduation and some have jobs lined up.... so hopefully its a good sign of things turning upwards again :)

Good luck, ~Mi Vida Loca~RN! Hopefully we both hear some good news soon!

I did end up getting the job, now I just have to pass my boards in the coming week! Yikes....

Take a deep breath; the boards are more mental then anything IMO.
