Per diem is similar to 'PRN' status. They use you as needed.
For example, they'll need your services when a nurse suddenly quits without notice, when someone takes a vacation, when an employee is on an extended leave of absence, or so forth. You are under no obligation to accept the shifts if they're available, and the workplace is under no obligation to give you steady hours. With per diem status, the shifts arise as needed.

Hello everybody, I just have a quick question. How does per diem work?
I was offered a job to work in different clinics per diem. I t said variable locations and hours. With per diem do you kind of get to choose when you want to work?? I just wanted to know how per diem works exactly.
