I'm trying to think ahead for the next couple of years when I have kids and want to work from home. Am looking for suggestions on ways to "be a nurse from home." I know there's home health nursing which offers some flexibility in scheduling, but what are other ways? I've thought of legal nurse consulting, but am interested to see what others have done. Thoughts???????

That's a good question. There are companies that hire nurses to research and review charts at home. Some place sent me an email trying to recruit me, but I'm so afraid of scams that I'm afraid to reply.

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, to have a job where I at least mostly work from home, what with an almost-two year old. Next best thing I guess would be that coveted day job.

Keep in mind that even the work at home jobs are going to require you to have a seperate space set aside as your "office" that is dedicated to that purpose-and it is probably not realistic to think you can watch your kids without the help of a babysitter during your work time. That being said, try looking for telephone triage positions. Some insurance companies and docs offices offer this service as do some hospital organizations. I just recently switched from working for one from my hospital in an office (think "ask a nurse") and I know they are discussing going to a work at home set up.
