Nursing career thoughts

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I work in subacute care at the moment. As a new grad, I have been doing this work for 8 months. I want to start NP school (part-time) this year and continue working part-time. I was also offered a job as triage nurse in a clinic. Should I completely abandon my subacute job and just work as triage nurse since it's clinic work while doing NP school? I feel like subacute and clinic work as very different and I like both. But subacute is soooo tiring, physically. Eventually, I would like to work as FNP, and would love to get a job in a hospital clinic. But having that bedside nursing care is also fun for me. After becoming a FNP, I would like to have an on-call nursing job, such as in ER, would not be a bad idea. Any thoughts?... Thanks

I really think some hard time in the trenches of hospital is what every advanced practice nurse needs. It scares me to think how many NPs we are training now that really have very little time at the bedside. :/
