New Graduate Nurse willing to Move Anywhere!

Nurses General Nursing

Hello there,

I just decided to join AllNurses today because I'm feeling a bit lost. I'm graduating May 6th, and having a very difficult time finding a job in a hospital (as is everyone else). I've sent out tons of applications, and haven't gotten back a single phone call. I would like to specialize in the ER, but am willing to begin anywhere. I live in CT and want to relocate. I'm willing to move pretty much anywhere, but I'm not sure where the biggest nursing shortage is. Has anyone heard of any places that still have shortages?

I would appreciate any advice. :icon_roll

Thanks for listening,

Hello all;

I joined allnurses in 2006....I rarely post, but I come here often....I prefer to read, learn and absorb.

This is a wonderful site and I appreciate everyone who takes the time to post and I like to thank everyone who respond to the people's post...

Regarding new RN grads....I am in the same dilemma. I'm expecting to graduate the 1st Saturday in May......I was told by my employer this week that there is no new GN job for me, I have 90 days to work there from graduation as an assistant, but in the meantime when I take the NCLEX within the 90 days and pass, I must resign immediately because I am not allowed to work as an assistant until I find a nurse's job because I will be working under my license and that proposes a liability......My employer did not say if I fail the NCLEX what they will do...I didn't bother to ask....I will do everything in my power to pass the NCLEX, I paid a hefty price for the exam..so regardless if I have a job or not, I am dedicated to passing the NCLEX...

I also was told by my company that they are tired of hiring GNs (external and internal) start putting them thru extensive training then they fail the NCLEX and this costs money and time within a department, and once a GN fails the NCLEX then they need to find a spot for them... and most of the time, their spot has been filled. So my response is I get punished for what some else did....... gosh, my goodness!!!

I have been encouraged by many including my employer to pass the NCLEX first then doors will open either with them (my employer) or someone else, I am also willing to relocate.

By reading this forum and learning from others and posters providing good tips, I am prepared to go on further regardless.....

Once again, a big THANKS TO ALL WHO TOOK THE TIME TO REPONSE TO THE ORIGINAL POSTER.

NOT california. Two posters mentioned it. But I know tons of new grads who are not finding positions and having to relocate. AZ is not much better at this time. They just had a special on the news about how nurses being unable to find work in California. I would definitely look into Texas, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin. I have heard these states have jobs.

Good luck to all of you and I hope you find work soon!

It is now 9 months later from these posts and I am wondering if the same info still applies. I also can live anywhere but trying to move south and/or west of New England............a little warmer would be nice. Any new suggestion for the next batch of new grads coming out in May 2010? Thanks for any help.

Many hospitals are understaffed we need to advocated for mandated staffing levels at the state level this might help jump start the hiring process. We can do it if we speak with one voice.

I've heard that once you get your license, more doors will open! (hope that's true cause I'm taking NCLEX tomorrow) :)
