Published

Hello, I am a college student and will be applying to nursing school really soon. I am interested in pursuing a career in neonatal nursing. I was wondering if anyone knows of any internships are available within the field I would like to go into. Thank you in advance

You can't do an internship, as far as I know, in nursing without being in nursing school and having reached a certain level in your schooling- a lot of places offer externships, after you complete school; however, these are coveted spots, especially with NICU nursing. Many graduates want NICU or other intriguing areas like ED. I'm not saying it isn't possible to go into one of those specialities after graduation, but highly unlikely. A lot of people need to start out in an area they don't want and then one day go into their specialty of choice.

Nursing is a generalist education. You learn about all aspects and areas of nursing. Once graduated and you pass the licensing exam you can then find the area you wish to practice. It is highly unusual that a new grad is hired for such a specialty. Due to infection control and privacy/liability non professional are not allowed to intern. You can take nurses aid training and get hired at a hospital but until you graduate there are no in tern programs.
