Need Opinions on Salary....

I am an RN, BSN prepared. I have just started a new journey as a Hospice Nurse, with the possibility of full time Case Manager Position. I was quoted a number for salary 21/hr but wonder if it is too low. I am working for a non profit organization. I have also been a nurse for one year. I would like to hear opinions on salary negotiation, or any education about Hospice Nursing payscale. I feel an infinity for Hospice Nursing, however I value my worth. Thanks!!:heartbeat

My most recent nursing position was with hospice. My position was full time and the job title was Primary Care Nurse. Basically I was a home hospice nurse on a home team, and my job included home assessments, nursing care, and case management. It was a non-profit organization. PCNs were never paid hourly, they were salary. When the job was offered to me, the starting salary was $54,500, and I accepted it. I had 3 years of RN experience at the time, and I have my BSN. Keep in mind, I live in Florida.

Loved my hospice organization and loved my interdisciplinary team, but I just could not handle the stress of it all. I was working over 60+ hours a week. Realized I was too young and too inexperienced. Burnt out, partly because I am prone to chronic depression. But, most of my nursing co-workers (all older and more experienced) loved their jobs and loved hospice and were very happy.

i think it depends on where you are in the country and how many years of experience and any relevant experience you might bring to the job that is specialized (such as oncology nursing or palliative care - i'm sure other nurses can throw out some other relevant specialities that might add a spark too). good luck.

Seems very low to me but i don't do hospice either. Also, depends on your part of the country.

Seems a little low to me also. I can make that kind of hourly pay on a weekend night bar shift.

i had one hospital offer me 19 bucks an hour to work PACU with call multiple nights a week and to take every other weekend.

i laughed. and turned down the offer without negotiating. i was like - if you can't even give me a serious offer, i am not even going to bother.
