Need advice about caring for a blister

I am a new nurse and need advice. My fiance just had total knee replacement surgery and he has these blisters on the side of his knee and a few small ones going down the incision site. The nurses at the hospital sent us home with iodine sticks to swab a couple of times a day to keep dry and gauze to keep them covered. The biggest one popped on the way home and has been draining serous fluid ever since, but the skin is still covering the blister allowing the fluid to collect and ooze out.

I work on a floor where I have done serious dressing changes and have wiped off skin from blisters and the slough underneath and then applied Silvadene and gauze twice a day. Do you think it would be okay to just do that to him? He is so concerned about infection and I wouldn't want to put him in any position to get an infection. The blister that I want to put Silvadene and gauze on is not near the incision by the way.

What do you think?

Thanks so much in advance!
