Hello, I just wanted to see opinions on different type of nursing jobs that are most fitting for a mother with 2 small children (3yr, almost 1yr). Husband works during day 6:30am-5:00pm M-Fri some times on Saturday. Right now I am a Stay at home mom and working towards taking the NCLEX. I just wanted to weigh options, I know most nurses are parents, and would like to hear what has worked best in these situations. Thank you for your time.

My husband works a day job and so do I . I work 7 am to 3:30 pm (8 hr shifts) so I am home in the evening. You could also do 12 hours three days a week but day 9positions are hard to find at first. You will most likely start on nights. Everything depends on the job market in your area and your ability to negotiate. You will likely have to work at least every other weekend and some holidays so get used to that. Some of the larger hospitals have day care for younger children. but it does get easier once they are school age or if you have a relative or friend to help out.

Per diem works best for me, but that's something that may not be available to you as a new graduate. You might just have to take what you can get. Most of us don't have a whole lot of options when we're just starting out.
