med error - methergine for placenta previa.

Nurses General Nursing

Published

A 7 month previa is wheeled in and bethamethasone was ordered. The nurse gave a vial of methergine by accident - which is .200 mg. Toco remains flat, and fetal heart tones hummed along as if nothing is going on. OB did not order Terbutaline - she just observed the strip and said it looked fine. I'm confused. I would imagine that placenta shearing off but nothing. not even a little uterine activity. Does that make sense to anyone?
