We can't help it. Natural aversion!! :chuckle
Spend as much time doing OB as we do, and you realize these TV shows do more harm than good at least half the time, as people think things should go just like "on TV". Especially w/Baby Story, this raises expectations to an often unrealistic level. (believe me).....And, In the case of Maternity Ward, it may scare the HELL out of expectant parents; one critical and frightening situation after another; it can definately scare anyone. JMO, not meaning to be mean.
I actually watched a little bit this evening (against my better judgement). Brian was flipping around and found it, and stayed on it during a c-section. It was a good opportunity for a little superficial talk, and showed him just about what I thought he could handle.
But then he saw the baby and said "EWWWWWWWWWW! GROSS MOM! CHANGE IT!" :chuckle
So I did.... and all was well again!

So what do you OB Nurses think of all the medical intervention done on seeming healthy babies on some of these shows? Seems like nature would take care of the new babies better than these docs are allowing.... flow-by oxygen, cramming the scope down their throats... I dunno, I mean I realize that not all babies are A-OK from the get-go, but unless the baby shows distress don't you think you should kinda leave 'em alone???
Just asking your opinions. My first was a 3 lb 10 oz 33 week feeder & grower, and #2 was born in a birthing center with a more "natural" approach than the hospital.... so I'm not exactly experienced or educated about these things. It made me wonder, watching these shows off & on today.
"seemingly healthy...."
Really, unless you are in the room with that patient as she delivers, you cannot determine the health of these babies. Knowing what I know, I wouldn't even speculate as to all of the medical detail that may or may not be left out my cameramen.
Which leaves far too much room for misinterpretation, IMHO.
I understand completely. It just seemed like ALL the babies were getting scoped and 02'd. Anyway thanks for answering with your experienced input! :)
