Ltc nurse moving to acute care

Nurses General Nursing

I have been a nurse for 14 years Ltc/rehab, recently took a position in acute care, some nurses treat me as a new grad. Why do some nurses look down on Ltc nurses?

There is definitely a 'pecking order' in nursing, and nurses who are in LTC are toward the bottom.

Nurses who work in critical care units tend to receive the most prestige, whereas those who work in LTC receive far less prestige. In addition, much of it has to do with our pitiful attitudes toward the elderly in society.

I work in LTC and couldn't imagine working elsewhere. :)
