loved ones in Iraq/Afghanistan

Hey-

Does anyone out there have a kid/loved one in Iraq? I have a son there, and because he's himself, I don't get too much info back from him. I don't think he'll be coming out at the end of his "year" (March 17). I would like to hear from others what they are hearing from their folks, and any info is helpful. My kid is regular Army, in a medical support team based at Hillah,(yes, the one that just got bombed), and we HOPE that he'll be home in time for his sister's wedding in June. How are they when they come home? My husband was pretty distant for a LONG time after returning from VietNam, is that the same? I know that depends on the individual response to the war, but I'm just trying to make it easier on the kid when he does return. Thanks for any info

Don't have any info for you, ERJulie... but just wanted to offer you warm(((HUGS))) during what must be a most trying and difficult time for you and your family.

May your son return soon... safe and sound to the loving arms who are so eagerly anticipating this reunion. God be with him... and all of you.

My little brother (18years) will be leaving in July for Bootcamp and then he has been told more than likely going overseas. I also send you warm wishes for your son's safe return. I live near a major military base and so many of my friends have come and gone so i know what that feels like. i grew up a navy brat and my ex-husband was also navy. we were just married a year when 9-11 happened. it's hard but just be as supportive as possible....hugs and kisses!

My husband's been over there since last May, hope to get him back in April or May of this year. He's in the Army, working in Baghadad Did get to see him for about 2 weeks at Christmas, got along pretty good. But he is sick of Iraq and wants to come home!! A year apart is a long time. I know there will probably be some transition but hopefully won't be too bad, we went through a nine month stint in Bosnia in 97 and that was awful!! Hopefully this time it will be a better homecoming. The military has a way of getting to people, being over there is tough if you don't normally have to put up with it everyday(reserves)
