Keeping an active license

Hello!

Im looking for some advice on keeping my license active. Worked for about 4 years in med Surg with my BSN. After I had my 1st child and my husband started his medical residency I chose to stay home but Ive been able to maintain an active nursing license here in Florida by keeping up with CEs and paying fees. My husband finishes his residency in June and we will be moving to Arizona. Im currently pregnant with baby #3 and don't see myself going to work in the next several years but would hate for my license to change to inactive. Ive looked at the AZ board requirements and it doesn't look like im going to be able to maintain an active nursing license bc I haven't working 980 hrs in the past 5 years (Ive worked about 480). Is there something I could do from home to earn those hours? if not what is a refresher course like? How long are they typically and how much should I expect it to cost?

Specializes in Psych ICU, addictions.

I don't know what you could do from home, but perhaps pick up something part-time or per-diem?

Working one 12 a week for just 1 year (12x50, we'll give you a vacation) is 600 hours. Unless you're adamant about not working at all (or circumstances make any sort of working impossible), you should be able to easily acrue 980 in less than 5 years.

Possibly can upgrade to a FL Multistate license since AZ is in the compact. Any chance you'll keep a residence here in FL?

Only the Arizona BON can answer your questions. Be aware.. that BON is tough.
