Just shaking my head at a commercial...

I was at work the other day and saw the following commercial for a school called City College on the TV:

Girl #1: I got a new job at a Doctor's Office, the pay and benefits are amazing.

Girl #2: I didn't know you were an LPN.

#1: I'm not, I went to school for Medical Insurance and Billing. I thought about becoming an LPN, but I just didn't want to do some of THAT stuff. (Insert Girl#1 making a grossed out face).

I just had to shake my head at that commercial.

It really didn't bother me that much that they were implying that LPN's or Nurses for that matter do nasty stuff. I will be the first to admit that the average polulation could very well throw up a couple of times during a normal 12 hour shift.

The thing that got me is that the school is implying that a crash course in "Insurance and Billing" will put you on a professional par with nurses, and make the same amount of money.

Of course this is the same school that has a commercial with a young mom in the grocery store. Her very young kid is asking if he can buy a toy, and mom tells him "I'm sorry, we can't, you have to put it back" then faces the camera and says "I should have gone to City College"

Done with my rant.

I hate TV. this just justifies in my mind why.

One of the technical schools in a city nearby has an ad with a girl (at work by the way!) saying "OH NO! see that girl in the scrubs?" The girl complains she is still working "here, and going to college. But you're already working?" Um, excuse me, you are also working? The one in scrubs trained to be a medical assistant! (oh joy, wonderous things!) but the college girl is jealous. Sorry, but making college sound like something to be avoided and a stupid thing to do burns me up. Especially in my state that has one of the worst school systems in the US and huge numbers of dropouts, and even offers free college tuition to any high school grad in the state trying to get kids to go on with education.

Now don't get me wrong, medical assistants are valuable and there's nothing wrong with becoming one. I very much appreciate my techs, and the aides in the hospital, but to make getting a college education sound like a stupid thing to do :angryfire

OMG... JBudd.... We have that same commerical here too... I hate it... we are always making fun of it...

I thought I was the only going against TV. If its not talking about rich people and their glitz n glam they are filling the tv with crappy commericals and reality shows.
