Job offer retracted

Nurses General Nursing

I work at a hospital who's policy is one year on your unit before transfer. My year will be up mid September. I applied for a position on the endo unit, which human resources forwarded my resume to. I interviewed, shadowed and was offered a position. I accepted with a start date after my year was up. My manager was notified of the transfer too. The problem is Human resources calls me a week later and tells me they basically dropped the ball and I am no longer eligible to take the position. They shouldn't have forwarded my resume to the hiring manager is what they said.

The endo unit must repost the position because my year is not up on my current unit. I am very upset about this.......What are your thoughts.

Specializes in Hospital medicine; NP precepting; staff education.

Suck it up and wait until you are supposed to.

Specializes in Ambulatory Care-Family Medicine.

Our facility is 6 months before transferring and it specifically says 6 months before APPLYING for transfer.

They are not going to set a precedent by violating the one year policy, be gracious about your disappointment, hopefully another position will become available closer to the one year mark.

I was very professional, HR even thanked me for being so. I emailed unit manager thanking her for the opportunity and stated I would stay in contact when eligibility arrives. I did not mention that policy was 6 months when I was hired, I found out policy changed when applying. I'm disappointed, but actually like my current unit, so I will wait.....

Sounds like you handled it very well. :)
