Hey everyone. I wanted to share my experience at the hospital yesterday that really stuck with me.

I was having surgery yesterday and started off in preop of course. They were prepping me and all the nurses were so nice and gentle. They kept giving me warm blankets and asking me if I needed anything. I felt so taken care of.

When I came out of surgery and i was in the primary recovery room, and I didn't realize it at the time, but I kept holding my hand out to the nurse, and she would take my hand and hold it for a few seconds and let me know she was there. I felt so comforted and was so greatful that this nurse was there to reassure me - even if it was just holding my hand.

I want to be like that nurse when I get my license.

such a great story. that is also why i chose to be a nurse. at first i wanted to be a doctor, but i am much more of a 'people person' and i want to be there to comfort the patients as well as the medical stuff. hope ur feeling better after ur op!

Old school nursing works like a charm every time. Thanks for posting!! You know, you can be aware the patient is SOB and call for a breathing treatment or get the pain med in a timely manner, but being there and holding the hand or just hovering just a little helps a great deal too and we often get so technically busy into the hitec tasks we sometimes throw the old school out when 9 out of 10 that's what our patients remember us most for.

It's very scary when you come out of anesthesia..it is very discombulating, scary and overwhelming.

I hold hands and also give back rubs..and when we have babies, rock them until Mama comes to the RR area.....

Love my job!
