Im curious, nurses at one time were not licensed individuals, and as their responsibilities became more and more, and they were required to gain more and more education.. eventually they became licensed. So with all the schools slowly switching over to 2-year degrees instead of just certification, and certifications becoming required by states more and more, is it possible that one day soon a 4year option and and licensing requirement will happen? I understand that for the most part scrub techs are used as a cheaper alternative to RN's in the ORbut as the years go by it seems like they are required to learn more and more in their programs, is it possible that career is on the move towards a licensed profession.

There is at least one state that already licenses CSTs. I don't see it becoming a 4 year degree (heck, nursing doesn't even require a 4 year degree to become licensed!). Check out AST.org and see if they have information for you.
