Interview Questions: Phone & In Person

So I just passed my NCLEX and wanted to get some input/advice from folks on what types of interview questions they may ask on the phone & in person if I make it that far :) How should I present myself and also I have no healthcare job experience besides my clinical experiences.

I live in Chicago (born/raised) and trying to apply to RN1 positions that are available in our hospitals here. Also, I'm so till waiting for my RN License to come in the mail after I submitted the $50 fee. I hope it doesn't take long.

Thanks!

JP, BSN, RN

I have done phone, Skype, and interviews in person and they pretty much all asked most of the same questions unless the unit I interviewed for was specific to cardiac, neuro, etc. They want to know what you know about their facility and why you want to work there. I interviewed for a cardiac floor and they always ask you how to treat an MI, ALWAYS! I also interviewed for a neuro floor and they asked me questions about strokes, the causes, and meds I would anticipate being ordered (this was by far my most difficult interview). They will also ask you questions about previous job experience (not necessarily a nursing job). They will ask questions like "tell me about a time you had a problem with a coworker. What was the problem and how did you fix it?"... stuff like that. Very little questions actually pertained to nursing for me. But either way, the point is to sell yourself! Hope this helped :)

Wow! Those are very specific scenario nursing questions. Well I just scheduled an interview in a Med/Surg unit and I will definitely read up/review the hospitals's mission, vision, and professional nursing practice. This hospital also has magnet status for nursing care.

So for Med/Surg what scenario questions do you think they may ask a new grad RN?

This is nerve-wrecking!
