Interview Next Monday!

Nurses General Nursing

Hi everyone! I'm an LPN working in LTC since I graduated last year. I've been trying to get a job in a family practice office for months, and FINALLY have an interview next week in an MD's office! I'm beyond excited, but I am also nervous.

Anyone here have any advice? What kind of questions will they ask? I'm not sure what to say if they ask why I'm leaving LTC (truth is, I need more diversity than working with the elderly, as much as I love them, plus I have too many residents at once truly be working safely). If they ask me if I do X, Y or Z, and I haven't since nursing school, do I say that?

I really want to nail this, and I'm sure other people who have applied have much more experience than a relatively new grad like myself! :nurse:

I graduated in Dec with LPN I have been working in LTC but really wanted a hospital job because of the experience. I finally found a job at a hospital about 45 minutes away, I went and applied got an interview I was nervouse because I was a new nurse and didn't have any hospital experience. I was honest with all the questions she asked me but I didn't figure she would offer me the job because, like you, I was sure more with way more experience applied, but she offered me the job and I am loving it. So just be honest and tell them you are willing to learn and maybe go back to your books and look up stuff you may have forgotten. I did because I work on the telemetry unit and we didn't really get in depth about heart rhythms and stuff just a quick touch on it.

Specializes in LTC.

If they ask why you want to leave LTC just tell them like you stated that you need more diversity in your work. No negative comments about the current job. Stress also your willingness to learn new things . Good Luck!
