Can anyone tell me how to get started in working for insurance companies as a telephone nurse? I have been a Registered Nurse for almost 20 years and am looking for work at home jobs that can still utilize my nursing experience. I worked in ER for that last 10 years and medical surgical and peds the 10 years before that. Looking for a work from home job now. Anyone have any ideas? Please help.

With all of your experience you will do wonderful on phone nursing..for lack of a better term lol.

A lot of md offices have "call centers" as well..Taking phone calls making appts, but you still get to use nsg skills by assessing symptoms over the phone, assessing whether they need to see their GP or go to the ER,

calling w lab and radiology results. You could try that if that interests you.

Suggest you scoot on over to the case management forum in Specialties (see yellow band above). Many discussions on this topic (telephonic case management).

Specializes in labor & delivery.

I found mine looking on the internet searching "RN Case Manager/ment jobs". You will find several sites that list openings for case management and utilization management. Good luck. Leaving the hospital setting was a great boost to my personal happiness.

Feel free to PM me.
