Any Independent Nurse Contractor on this site?

I would like some information about how to start the process.

Thanks. :)

It is actually fairly easy, however Please realize I am not a tax professional. First, you need to find a job or a place that will employ you. Next, instead of a W-4 tax form you will fill out a W-9. Your employer will not be withholding taxes making you accountable for that now. You will want to save all reciepts for business related matters and make sure to have someone prepare your taxes at the end of the year.

You will also want to make sure you have Mal-Practice Insurance.

Do you want to work for hospitals, facilities, or individual clients?

(so we can point you in the right direction)

Thank you all for your responses.

At this point, I do not have a concret idea about which way to go.

I currently work at a hospital setting and I do not have experience in anyother facilities.

sounds like dealing the tax stuff and getting mal practice insurance would be no problem.

If I tell my current employer that I want to do the independent contract nursing, what is the predicted outcome of their response? will they let me go(fire) or change my status gladly?

What is the pay rate that I can suggest?

I am assuming you guys are already doing this. Can you share your experiences with me?

Thanks :)

There is a forum on delphiforums specifically for independent nurses. (That is the name of the forum "Independent Nurses"). Lots of information on setting yourself up and all the info on taxes, insurance, etc.

(Note to moderators - I know you don't generally allow other forum recommendations, but this info is not on here and it's pretty specific)
