I believe we need a male nurses week

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Because we should simply be celebrated for having our very presence on the floor lol! Just playing :)

But for real I think we do deserve our own week, lets look at what we do above and beyond:

Heavy lifts and always being asked to "assist" with lifting patients.

Dealing with the combative patients and family members.

Being given the heaviest groups because "were the men".

And many more :D

So my fellow male cohorts, ARE YOU WITH ME!? :coollook:

haha, male nurses week--

on our unit, we have 4 full time male RN's - most of the time we don't ask them to come help lift, we ask them to come reach the top of the fan to stop the oscillation!

And 2 of our male nurses are always babied by the director, the patients, family--- oh he is such a great nurse, he is so wonderful, he is just perfect. ugh-- i'm sorry, but that kid i just orientated who thinks he knows it all but is wrong 30% of the time really needs some good time on the floor NOT being babied by everyone because he is a male nurse under 25. lol.:angryfire

i think i resent that remark, gusblom. i hold my male co-workers in the highest esteem.....we wouldn't be anywhere without each other!!!! we work hard together, as well as have fun together. i'm also a little girlie (5'6", 120#) who works out, lifts weights, & rides a harley....i have great muscles, too, although i can't lift a truck, i'll give you that. so enjoy your 5 minutes!

I worked with a male nurse who refused to insert any female foleys, or do any kind of female peri care in general. I just used to think "Helloooo! Do you think it's great fun for us women to run around looking at strange memberes all day?" It's the same concept, but a woman would be fired for refusing to provide any and all care to her male pts!

I generally do peri care and foleys for my own patients, but if they're female, I promise not to look. Usually, after 25-30 minutes of fishing around, they assure me it's okay to go ahead and look, if it will speed up the process.

But seriously, folks...I don't feel like I need special recognition. The hours I spend in the company of strong, intelligent, compassionate women make every day male nurses day for me. (:barf01:, I know, but it's actually true.)

you're great spiker but really we're mostly respected in emergency situations when we have to intervene because the female nurses are running around like mad ants sometimes screaming their heads off. thank god for the strong ones.

well, gusblom, i'm glad i'm not one of those mad ant nurses! 30 years in the or gives you good training for keeping your cool in tense & life-threatening situations. like i said, we all count on each other, & i wouldn't hesitate to count on you! keep on truckin'!

My unit has no male nurses (our previous director used to be the sole male, but he's gone now), so "us girls" do all our own heavy lifting....now how do ya want to spin it?:smokin:

Where is the equality. I want male affirmative action. LOL
