How/when to ask if they made a decision on hiring me?

I interviewed almost 2 weeks ago on a unit that I want to work on more than anything. The interview went amazing, I emailed 2 days after thanking the manager for the interview as she said she preferred email communication. I haven't heard anything since but she said to expect a decision in a week or so. She had said some financial cost rep was coming to assess the unit and she'd make her decision once he'd come, but I don't know when that was. Still haven't heard... Have any of you any advice for if I should email her or the HR recruiter to ask if they made a decision? I'm dying here :( thanks!

Depending on how big the facility is... the hiring process can take months. HR is never in a hurry.

I would contact HR in a month and keep up the job search.

The hiring process is rarely as prompt and efficient as we'd hope it would be.

It sounds like it's been 3 weeks since the interview...I think you can safely drop her a "just following up, do you need anything else from me?" e-mail. Then you just have to keep waiting.

And like the previous poster said, do not stop the job hunt while you wait on this. It doesn't matter what the interviewer tells you: until HR sends you an offer letter, you don't have a job yet.

I just recently got hired for a job I have wanted since I graduated. (Oncology). I first interviewed in April (the beginning of April) and had 3 interviews. It took a total of 5 weeks before I got my job offer. I can tell you why it took so long for my offer to come through: The Joint Commission was doing the annual walk through, my manager had to go to a conference out of state, and of course, HR never is as anxious as you are. It will happen. Keep in touch but remember that they have their own schedule and try to keep busy. Easier said than done, I know. I almost drove myself crazy waiting to hear. It will happen.

And I agree with previous posters, keep searching. Even if you interview, you can always decline if you are offered the position you want, And who knows, you might be offered a better position.

I think you're safe to send a follow up e-mail just saying that you wanted to follow up and ask how the thing with the cost rep went. Keep it brief (as managers rarely have time for lengthy e-mails) and to the point. There may be hold ups out of her control, which she may or may not be able to share with you, but at least some communication keeps you in her mind and hopefully will give you SOME peace of mind. I also agree with these guys about searching elsewhere in the meantime. I have an offer (not yet on paper, but once I'm licensed), but I'm still looking elsewhere. I have another offer available as well for that same time (on paper) that I may or may not take "just in case," and I'm still looking as well. Better to have too many offers and have to turn stuff down than to end up not getting this dream job and have nothing to fall back on!
