How to get LVN if you are in RN program

I am a student in a 3 year RN-BSN program in California. I am two weeks away from finishing my second year, and it is my understanding that we are able to take our NCLEX-LVN/LPN at this point in the program. Can someone please tell me exactly what I need to do to apply and take the test?

Go to the website of the BVNPT and download the application (or fill it out online, I believe that nowadays you have to fill it out online). Take the school forms to the school for them to fill out and return to the Board. You should investigate the site carefully because there is a special form that your school needs to fill out and you probably need to go to a specific link for that form or call them and have them mail it to you. You have your school fill out the special form and then you process your application just as any other person would do so. Any problems or questions, call the Board and speak to someone (be sure to get their name). Remember you need a special form that is not used on the regular application of people who have graduated from schools of vocational nursing. When I did this years ago, I had no problems except for an employer that couldn't remember that I worked for them. Good luck.
