How to best spend summer of a nursing student

Nurses General Nursing

Hello everyone!

I am currently a BSN 1 student at Washington and I am looking for classes or courses or even just anything that I can do over the summer to learn and get experience (e.g. EKG courses). I am looking forward to finding courses that are not very expensive. I am currently working as a CNA, but I just need some advice on how to spend this summer to better prepare me as a second year nursing student for the upcoming school year. Just a quick note, I am interested in a few nursing areas: community health, surgical nursing, and geriatrics. All your comments will be very much appreciated!

Thank you =)

Kim

It is not a course, but I would suggest looking for student nurse positions. Many allow you to do it so long as you completed nursing fundamentals. This allows you to network and build up a good reputation within hospitals. Volunteering at hospitals if you do not get hired on as a student worker will allow similar experience, and looks good on your resume. You will learn the general 'flow' of the hospital, and make professional contacts.
