How do you know if Nursing is right for you

Nurses General Nursing

Hello Everyone! I just wanted to get some advice. Let me tell you I have been trying to become a Nurse for many years. I keep hitting road blocks. The road blocks that I hit are either with my eight kids or my health. Well, anyways this is the last couple of quarters until I apply for this Nursing program this winter. I PLAN on starting the program in Fall09. I know the program that I am trying to enter is highly competitive. I am retaking Micro and Chem this quarter and will be finishing up AP this Spring. I have been trying to get through these classes for many years now. I should of been a Nurse already. I have 2 major surgeries and yesterday I missed another exam due to a bowel problem I am having. I was in so much pain it was unbearable. The doctor did a CT scan and found that I have a bowel disfuction. I was almost admitting, but he wants to start the meds first and if the pain continues I will get the treatment in the hospital. I feel like crap. I am writing this about 1:30am. I can't sleep. I was given some pain meds by the doctor to relieve me from this pain. I also am waiting for my 13 year old son to come home. He has been doing this quite a bit. I am a single mom also, but I just don't know anymore what kind of parent to be. I can't chain him to his bed and make him listen. I did not remarried and have been single now for 10 years. IT SUCKS!!! My kids walk all over me. I only have six at home. I want a better life for us. I also found out that the housing authority where I live will be destorying all of the housing units. The city no longer wants this housing project to be here. So I will have to look for a new home. I am going crazy. I just don't know what to do. I try really hard to get through school, but it seem that I still have to be pressure with more and more pressure on me. I don't have much of support system either. My mother just died of cancer, this passed year and my father died a couple years before that. I just don't know what to do about my life. After my mother past none of my siblings talk. I really hate to have sit here a have a pity party, but really this is the only way I can express myself. Everyone here seems to offer great advice. I also want to say that I am not getting any younger. I should of had my degree years ago. I am still pushing forward regardless of my age because I believe in education. I have been going through Chemistry and Microbiology again. I really think this will be the last time I take these class. I am getting so burnt out on this stuff. I know the importance of theses classes, but i really feel that if I am not making the grade, then the sciences are not for me. I don't know what to do. please help I really need some advice.

Hi... I want to get some advise. I am in my first year in nursing and I'm already 33 y/o. I just want to ask if I will continue my studies or not? But Im so willing to finish it... HELP..

Hello Carlasbizz,

I am a 3rd yr student and I am a neophyte here. I am intrigued by your question. Thought it is an old blog and expecting lots of answers on your question. But I think yours is new and I think I'm the first one to reply? Not sure..

Your situation is hard, i can say. You have 8 kids? But wow, you have managed to take care of them all and I adore you for that, esp that you're a single mom. Not to mention, there are bit of probs, but still you've done much! :yeah:With your child who has been doing bad lately--going home late, you must have real talk about it.

I'm sorry about the events you've been experiencing. But please do know that all of us undergo hard times. Let me share to you a story of my friend whose house was caught burning and not any small thing was recovered but they were all safe though. Thank God! And to think that here in our country, we don't have insurances really. I mean, it's not that usual to us here. Now they're living temporarily at their church. It must be really a hard time for them esp to his mom who is left to take care of them alone while his dad is working abroad. That incident led me to thinking that all of us really go through fire/tests. I had my own share of life's heaviest difficulties also which didn't allow me to enjoy my teen years. Coz now I'm already 20! Hehe.. When I was 13, just started as a teen, huh.. my father got paralyzed for almost 5 years. He was like a child after then, couldn't talk, nor walk, stand, sit nor eat by himself. It was such a very hard time because my mother had a job but with no salary yet. Our house was sold, pianos are sold, mom could even come outside of the house with unchanged clothes and unbrushed hair. I used to sleep 2am, then woke up at 5am just to study continuously. I was doing that for many years. I tried also to tire my body so that I couldn't think of my problem anymore. I was the primary caregiver of my dad in those years whule my mom was out to work. I had gained stomach ulcer for missing meals just to save to help my mother. ANyway, to cut the story short, it's amazing God has been faithful through these years. We were almost dropped out of school but that didn't happen. We are 4 children in the family. I wanted you to know that you are not alone!

All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28)

Yes, if you don't make good grades then Nursing is not really for you. But for me, based from my experiences, the best thing to do to know the answer is to ask God about it through prayer. Believe that He'll give you the answer, and you will! Just try.. For there are far more great things happen in prayer than by work itself. God won't give you a burden too heavy for you to bear. :) God isn't insensitive to what's happening. Things don't happen without them having to pass at His filtering hands.

God bless you!:redbeathe
