What happens to a large hospital if they lose Joint commission accreditation?

Does it close? Does another hospital buy them?

Here's a link to a thread from about four years ago on this matter. NRSKaren does a pretty good job of explaining it.

Thanks. So if Joint commission backs out, CMS probably isn't far behind, huh?

Did they lose it voluntarily or did JC drop them because of a substandard survey? JC is not the only game in town when it comes to accreditation.

I once worked for a facility that dropped JC voluntarily and went with a state surveyor.

We dropped Joint Commission and use state now. Our administrators said they were tired of paying JC.

It hasn't pulled out yet but we are in very close jeopardy. I'm worried about my job.

Yep, JC pretty much has a monopoly on this stuff, and as a result, makes a FORTUNE. It's more work, but a lot cheaper, to use smaller companies.

Ahhh....I had no idea. Kinda like paying Magnet hundreds of thousands of dollars so I can be stuck as a chairperson for a stupid committee because Noone else will do it.
