Nurses General Nursing

Published

I just started nursing school (and am loving every bit of it so far, here's hoping the rest of the next 2 years are just as good!) ANd Im looking for some reading to do in my free time ( no kids or job, yes I'm kinda spoiled and actually do have some free time). I recently started reading Patricia Holloran's book about how she became addicted Stadol, lost her job and license etc. It's fantastic so far, and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions to add to my reading list? Chicken Soup for the nurses soul, and another about how nurses are portrayed in the media (ie, because of shows like Grey's anatomy, the 'dr's do all the nurses work, most 'civilans' dont really know what nurses actually do)

Looking forward to any suggestions, thanks!!!:redpinkhe

I recently read Critical Care, which is about a nurse on an oncology floor as a new nurse.

It was meh. Not the greatest writing, and it was similar to the kinds of things you read on AN all the time - my coworkers are mean, my first patient just died, I had the busiest shift EVER, etc etc.

After that I read Complications, which is by a surgeon, about surgery. I liked it very much, even though it pertained to medicine more so than nursing.

Now I'm reading Something for the Pain, which is by an ER doc. It's a little dated, but it's a good read.

I'm interested to see what others say! I'm a voracious reader, would love some new material

I can't remember the names of the books, but they are by Echo Heron. They were about her nursing career and were good reads. One book of hers had stories from different nurses.
