we have students this week. its the first time for me and i absolutely love them!

i find their enthusiasm so refreshing and contagious. kind of like a breath of fresh air from the constant bytching that i am guilty of too. helps give me a new perspective.

knowing what they have to do to prepare for clinicals, i find myself asking them questions ...lol

for example, one of the patients we shared was having a shunt put in. i never heard of this particular shunt so i asked the student...yeah that felt kind of weird but i take any and all opportunities to learn.

the only "problem" i have with them is that they dont understand that now means 20 minutes ago...lol

and thats only a "problem" for me because i like to let them do everything and handle everything ...thats how they learn...but when its OR or an OR-like procedure, i have to step in and take over. otherwise it just takes too long.

i dont mind the questions and i dont mind them following me. im going to do my damndest to make sure they have a positive experience when they are with me and that i treat them like the NURSES they are.

students are cool

they are like the wing beneath an old tired nurses wings.....if the old tired nurse will leave themselves open for their drive and questions.............

i miss student clinical rotations, since i changed units and shifts......
