Flex time VA nursing

Hey all, I was thinking about getting a job at the VA when I move back to Florida. Only problem is every VA I checked with says their facility does not offer flex time, 36 hour work weeks, and most only have 8 hour shift?

Is this the case with most VA's? If so I might have to rethink things a little.

I start my clinicals at the VA this coming week, so I can let you know whether or not that is true of all VA's. Best of luck.

Come on VA nurses, does your VA work 12's? If so tell me about how it works.

My clinical instructor told me that the VA in Mid-Michigan has both 8-hr shifts and 12-hr shifts. She said that she used to work 8-hrs but decided that working 12's would be more feasible; so now, she works 3 12-hr shifts. I'm not exactly sure of how the whole system works; hopefully, someone who knows more will post something. Hope that helped in some way.

I just interviewed and they told me it was 6 12's a pay period, plus 1 8 hour shift to make your 80 hours. It probably depends on each facility.

I have several friends that work at a VA facility and am fairly certain that 12 hour shifts are an option. Depends on which dept you choose but they are available.

I'm a student doing clinicals at a VA Hospital in MA. A nurse in the PACU told me that she and others do three 12 hour shifts a week. However, I'm not sure if that is the case for all of the units in that particular VA.
