Dilute Urine Test?!?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi - today I had to go take a urine drug test for nursing school, which begins in September. I worked out today, and I guess I drank a bit too much water (also wanted to make sure I would be able to go when the time came). My urine was nearly clear. Now, I have nothing at all to hide - I have never, ever done drugs before. The technician didn't mention anything, but I know it looked light. I've been looking up things online, and it seems that drinking excess water is a red flag for drug users. I'm a bit nervous that my results will be interpreted incorrectly, and I'm very nervous!

Does anybody have a similar experience? Will I likely retest, or is this a major red flag? Again, I have nothing to hid, just a simple over-hydrating mistake.

Thanks

They will look at the specific gravity and look for any other red flags.

Okay - Phew. All proper protocol was followed, so there is no reason for anyone to believe that it was tampered with. I guess I'm just being too paranoid.

My nurse cousin had a similar experience. It had been a HOT day when it was difficult to drink enough to remain hydrated. He went for the routine drug test required of all employees on his unit when his break came.

The sample was amber. When sample was tested, it was off.

His results had always been clean before so he redid it and passed with flying colors. You'll do great!

Thank you, it's nice to hear similar stories! It is also very hot here today - in the 90s! Hopefully I'll be allowed a re-test if my sample comes back abnormal - I should hear back in the next few days

Just wanted to let you all know that my results came in negative - no mention of them being too dilute :) I guess I was freaking out over nothing. Thanks for the reassurance!

The clear urine shouldn't be a problem, but that poppy seed bagel.....
