I have a question, I am currently in 11th grade, and my plans are to become an RN. I was wondering if you need any algebras at all in nursing school or prereqs for nursing school or on the acual floor. I am terrible at math, i take the lowest math classes at my HS as possible, i still have not taken ALgebra 2, and dont plan on it because i dont think i can pass it, im barly passing this algrbra i am in now..i have a C....my math teacher says its not even alg 2 that im in its lower... i was wondering if the college i attend will make me take alg 2 in college. If they do, will nursing schools look at this grade? or do they only take the grades that are theirr pre reqs into consideration? Should i take alg 2 my senior year??

Yes, you should definitely take algebra 2. You will have to take up until Intermediate Algebra to be able to go to nursing school. Also, you will have to take Chemistry which is heavily related to algebra/math. Do not worry. A lot of people have problems with Math. You are just going to have to make sure that you spend more time on it, and possibly get a tutor. Tutors are great, and there are a lot more resources while you are in college for extra help. If you want to be a nurse, do not let the math stop you!

yes, i do have a recommendation. push your limits academically now. go for it all. find your groove where most of your final grades are as and bs. keep up your gpa. volunteer in the local hospital for at least one full-time summer or part-time during the school year. do your american heart association basic life support (cpr) certification. start working on college recommendations from strong people in your community and/or medical professionals. and always have a plan b that you can move toward if or when you change up. be fair with yourself. don't push for something you may not want.

Take the algebra II. I hated math in high school and did poorly. It gets easier in college and when you have a "reason" to learn it. Take as many science classes as you can take. I think you will learn quickly, that when you have goals and a plan, the classes aren't near as hard. Just trying to make it through high school sucks,.working toward a goal gives you inspiration and motivation!

Also keep in mind, stay out of trouble. I hate to see 20yr olds who have DWI's, bad checks, assault charges etc, then decide to get their act together and can't get into their chosen profession because of poor choices made as a "stupid kid"! Don't be a stupid kid! Keep on track, remember your goals and you can do it!

I was and still am terrible in math! I struggled through the dose calculations in nursing school, but I did tons of practice questions and got a B in the class. The same in high school, I struggled through the Algebra 1 and 2, but to be honest with you, a lot of the math you get in nursing school has formulas, just like in Algebra. So just do lots of practice questions and you will do fine :)

I am terrible at math... In college I had to take a statistics class and barely got a C... That was the only math that I needed for my BSN... I am great at all other subjects and did not let my poor math skills stop me... If you want it bad enough, you can do it... Good luck to you...;)

Do as everyone else has suggested and get the problem addressed and sorted out NOW, nsg school is not the time to start dealing with it. Take remedial classes, tutoring, do whatever you have to do to grasp the material.

In regards to nursing math I just finished the book Calculate With Confidence by Gray Morris for my refresher course. It takes you through step by step with lots of practice questions at the chapter ends.
