Hi, I'm curious to know what you all think about your careers. I am a Public Health nurse who loves my job, but due to funding cuts the job may be cut. I'm thinking about going back to the hospital.

I'm interested in ER, PACU, ICU, but not floor nursing.

Thank you so much. Any input is welcome.

Vintage,

Your profile indicates that you are a nursing student - I am assuming you have graduated. Are you an RN?

Most specialty care nurses really love their areas - me included. By 'floor nursing' I guess you mean Med Surg? This is a specialty also. They all have their pluses & minuses. A lot of it depends on the organiztion and supervisor you have. If you do not have experience in a specialty unit, you will need to find a facility willing to train you.

Hi, Thank you for getting back to me. I have been an RN for 1.5 years now. Its been a while since I logged in here. :)

Both of the local hospitals are more than willing to train me in any job that is open. Fortunately there are about 20 jobs open right now in a variety of specialties. I have mostly done women's health visits, prenatal, and others... the list is long, for Public Health. Basically I'm an extended role nurse with protocols.

I think I'd like the ER, because there is a great variety there, as well as more options for work scheduling.

Anyone care to share why they love their career specialty?

:) Thank you
