Career change to become RN

Nurses General Nursing

Hi. I have a BS in Psychology and have been in business for quite a long time. Taking care of elderly relatives and an interest in health and weight loss has led me to realize I want to become an RN. Maybe even a MSRN. How do I begin? I live in North-Eastern Pennsylvania. Hopefully I can transfer the science credits I have now, make up a few (microbiology, etc?), then some core nursing classes, and take the license exam soon?? I heard some schools have programs that accept any BS holder and specialize in "career change" nurses. Any ideas? Thanks.

Although I'm not familiar with PA, there are many schools that will take a student who has a BS, they go through the program and end up with a Masters in Nursing in two years. If it's available close to you, that might be your best bet. Trust me, I'm in the same boat as you (changing careers after getting a Bachelor's) and if that program was available anywhere close to here, it's what I'd do in a heartbeat!

Check around various schools in your area. A lot of your science courses will probably transfer over. If you have all the pre-reqs that the school requires, usually it will only take two years to get a BSN.

Good luck!
