I thought it might be helpful to post this under this section, and receive advide from the experienced nurses :)

ok...i have a BA in psychology...i am finishing my prereq's for a second bachelors in nursing (an accelorated program), and i hope to get in!! i know it's competative now. i am concidering my options, and i'm not sure that i want to do a masters in nursing or counseling. any suggestions? what are advantages to getting the msn vs social work or counseling? does anyone know the pay differences? or the range of opportunities? any advice would help greatly? also....any advice on getting into the accelorated bsn would help too!!!

thank you for your time!

Hi,

I hate to tell you what to do, however I feel that if you want to do Mental Health, there would be much more opportunity as a psych NP. Including medication management.

1. The first question is - Do you want to be a nurse?

If so, then pursue it!

LICSW and LMHC are wonderful, however with nursing your spectrum of treatment is far more vast.

thanks...i didn't really even think of the psych NP...sounds perfect!

I had my BA in psych before going on to get my associates in psych. You may want to evaluate going to get your associates in nsg as after that you can go get your NP without the BSN

did you become a psych NP?
