I was with a nurse at a delivery today and when the doctor cut the cord the nurse got blood splashed on her face. Would you be concerned??

Specializes in Pediatrics (Burn ICU, CVICU).
They don't have splash shields at this hospital and they don't stock masks execpt for when doing epidurals. Even if they did have slpash shields they would only be used by the physicians. Do all the nurses in your hospitals wear masks/slpah shields at routine deliveries at your hospitals??

Eden, even though you work outside the US, I would still be concerned over statement that only splash shields used by physicians!

Deliveries involve blood and splashing bodily fluids. Nurses involved in the delivery should be using equipment to protect them too!

The phyiscians don't use them either. Honestly I've never seen them used at any hosptial delivery room where I live or in the US where I 've been.

Most definitely...nurses can wear splash shields or whatever else we may need to protect ourselves!
