Hello!!

I'm about to accept a RN side job at a nearby Clinic and it looks like they are hiring me as a independent contractor.

Anything I should keep in mind professionally as a independent contractor?

Also, I heard that I will have more complicated taxes during tax season. Anybody have any experience?

...no experience, but that sounds like an expensive nightmare.

Hopefully not, it's just a PRN position so I'm probably going to be working 3 or 4 times a month so it's extra money that's always welcome in my wallet

Tax season should be fun. You might want to consult a CPA to see how to best report the income. Also your liability might be different so check your

A relative of mine does this, works as an independent contractor which basically means she's self-employed. End of the year she gets a 1099 and figures out her tax bill, which is about twice as much medicare and twice as much social security taxes as when she was paid as an employee. she definitely spends more on taxes but she likes having more flexibility in her scheduling as she doesn't owe the medical practice anything more than a list of dates she's available. I wouldn't do it because I like my taxes lower and my benefits higher lol but to each his own right?
