So, my brother just called me in a big fit of rage..apparently despite the fact that he pays nearly $3,000 a month, they want him to pay $2,600 for Humira injections. He will have to take them frequently...anyone have any experience in somehow reducing their cost if they make too much money to get any sort of assistance?

How in the world do these pharmaceutical people expect regular joes to pay for this sort of stuff? Or anyone have any info on WHY it's so expensive and companies refuse to pay?!

It's a brand name injection and unfortunately, when your prescription insurance is not that great, that's how much it costs.

I'm doing some injections right now and the pharmacy put it in the system wrong and my insurance refused to cover and the pharmacy tried to charge me full cash price. It's a life saving med to boot that I can't live without right now. I called my insurance company and got them to fix it and reimburse me for what I had paid.

He can either call his insurance company if he hasn't already, maybe the pharmacy screwed up. Mine was over dosage. Since syringes are calculated differently the tech put it in wrong and was too lazy to call them. Even though that's their job when they get a denial. Or if that is the true price because it's brand, the pharmaceutical company will often help with the cost. I have gotten help with that before years ago.

Otherwise, the physician will need to do an alternative.

that is truly horrendous that they do this to people who need these medications, just makes me so mad! :(

Would alternatives be just as expensive? I saw in a few posts on here that some of the injections cost around $4,000 for the Humira, that is mind boggling!

There are now generics available, which cost as little $600/month (compared to over $3000 per month for brand name Humira). When generics are available, some insurance plans will only cover the generic. Despite it's cost, humira does more in sales than any other drug in the US, so they don't have much incentive to lower the cost. I'm not sure you mean by "companies refuse to pay"?

He might just have to explore other alternatives if this is a normal occurrence. I meant that if he is paying $2600 a month for insurance, there has to be something wrong with his plan if they are refusing to pay a majority of the cost of this medication considering it is a necessity at this point for him.
