Anyone ever heard of a DON or other managing RN losing their license? I don't mean a DON who worked on the floor and did something silly while performing patient care but a manager who lost their license behind a desk?

My DON and I were in a "discussion" and she threw out there that her license was on the line too, I snickered and basically said, "your license is only on the line if I somehow dodge the bus your going to throw me under."

That was a funny comeback! Our DON was fired, but I believe she retained her license. Facts were pretty hush hush. I thought they just moved them around to a different facility. I'm sure though that they could lose their license same as you and I. Just my :twocents:

Absolutely! DON's can have their licenses revoked/suspended. A few years ago, the Attorney General's Office/Fraud Unit walked into our LTC facility due to a complaint from a State Surveyor. The AG's office requested Dementia Training Inservice Records. Well apparently the DON thought she could fraud the Medicaid Fraud Unit!! No kidding!! This stupid DON used white out & changed dates to show that staff had inservices (which they didn't). The ADON was present when all this was going as well (just as GUILTY, in my opinion). Another Management Nurse witnessed this & reported it promptly to the LTC Corporation. The DON was then reported to the Licensing Board & action was taken. The ADON was not reported; she was always behind everything but ALWAYS seemed to "hide under the radar."

fraud, any type of unprofessional conduct, felony convictions (DUI) are just a few ways to lose a license. Depends on what your state nursing practice act states. Once my boss forgot to renew her license so was suspended.
